Significant Sightings

New (or increased) sightings are always cause for excitement, when much work has gone on behind the scenes with exactly this objective in mind.  Wild Bush Luxury field guides at Arkaba are the source of most new Arkaba sightings

Carpet Python

The first sighting of a Carpet Python at Arkaba in a very long time (decades?) was cause for great excitement. Numbers have declined in South Australia due to habitat loss (notably River Red Gums) and predation by foxes and dogs.

Excitable Delma

Delma Tincta (also known as Excitable Delma, owing to its active and jumpy defence mechanism) is in fact a legless lizard and this sighting was a first at Arkaba.

Owlet Nightjar

Owlet Nightjars are now regularly heard at Arkaba, though only occasionally seen, and the species has benefited hugely from Arkaba's feral cat and fox control programs.
